The Amazon FNSKU (Fulfillment Network Sku) is the product identifier in the Amazon logistics network, a unique alphanumeric code associated with Amazon. In this article we try to answer the most frequently asked questions of Amazon logistics users. If you don’t have them you can always request an exemption to sell even without EAN.

Amazon Fulfillment

Among the sellers who use Amazon as a sales channel, there are those who use the Amazon Logistics service, known as amazon FBA  box labels which allows them to use Amazon’s warehouses to store items and its couriers for fast shipping. For sellers who find themselves in this situation, there is an additional item code that you need to know but which is not used in any other online selling case: the Amazon FNSKU.

What is FNSKU?

The FNSKU ( Fulfillment Network Sku ) is the product identifier in Amazon’s logistics network , a unique alphanumeric code associated by Amazon that is not strictly linked to the EAN, since the same EAN sold by two different sellers will have two different FNSKUs (one for each seller).

Once you have created the product on Amazon, in order to have it fulfilled by FBA you must convert the created product to “fulfill by Amazon” and, by doing this, the product is automatically associated with an FNSKU that will be printed on the label of each product unit to be sent to the Amazon fulfillment center.

Each single FNSKU used by the seller therefore corresponds to a single product , i.e. a single item code, which corresponds to a single FNSKU.

What is it specifically for?

In addition to being essential for receiving and sorting the package arriving at the Amazon fulfillment center, you can use the FNSKU code to:

Report inventory (goods shipped, daily inventory, orders shipped to end customer)

Track your expenses such as storage charges, or refunds

Check for any problems with incoming goods in the warehouses (non-compliant goods or shipment)

How to prepare and package products for Amazon FBA?

Generally, products must have a scan-able FNSKU placed on each unit. The label must be placed on the outside of the product in a way that is easily scan able by Amazon warehouse workers. Amazon gives the possibility to send items with only the EAN present on the box and therefore not to apply the labels with FNSKU on each product only in two cases:

By having it applied directly by Amazon.

By joining the “shared inventory ” program

In this regard, however, we must dwell on an important aspect.

If you send products with only the EAN code (so without FNSKU) and your competitor does the same, what will happen is that both your inventory and that of the competitor will end up being stored together. From there, if a consumer places an order on Amazon, the person in charge in the warehouse will go to the shelf and choose the product randomly (since all items are considered the same), without knowing if it is your product or your competitor’s. There is therefore a risk that you will be assigned competitor products that may be counterfeit, malfunctioning or in poor condition.
