Mafia: The Definitive Edition got off to a good start and is still one of the best and best-looking mobster games ever made. Saints Row: The Third Remastered
The GTA series is seen as a clever satire, but the Saints Row games are seen as funny, silly, and crazy. So, if you want a crime game with an open world that doesn’t take itself as seriously as the Mafia games, Saints Row: The Third Remastered might be your best bet.
Fans of the Mafia will have fun trying to become the most powerful crime boss in Steel City while fighting off hordes of gangsters dressed as killer nuns, Mexican Luchador wrestlers, and more. Saints Row: The Third is a completely tongue-in-cheek experience, but it’s a good one that you should play if you like open-world games that are crazy and full of crime.
Empire Of Sin
Empire of Sin takes place in Chicago during Prohibition in the 1920s and early 1930s. Fans of Mafia games and mobsters in general will enjoy this book. It is a strategy game where you play as a crime boss trying to take over the city by taking over rackets, running speakeasies, getting rid of gangs, and running your criminal empire.
The combat in Empire of Sin is turn-based, and the real-time parts are roguelike, so each time is different. It can be played over and over again because the boss characters each have their own missions and stories to follow.
Grand Theft Auto 4: Episodes From Liberty City
Episodes from Liberty City came out in 2009 with The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. It was made up of two expansion packs for Grand Theft Auto 4. Many of you liked these two add-ons better than the original game because they were more focused on the story and had better checkpoints.
The Lost and the Damned is about a motorcycle club called The Lost MC, which lets you live out your best Sons of Anarchy fantasy. It has side missions called Gang Wars that let you unlock safehouses and territories. This is in keeping with the mobster theme of taking over a city. Even more praise was given to The Ballard of Gay Tony for its story, humor, and gameplay. The game is about helping the main character, Tony, get out of a jam with the crime families of Liberty City.
Omerta: City Of Gangsters
Omerta: City of Gangsters came out in 2013. It is a strategy game set in Atlantic City in the 1920s. The turn-based strategy game was made to cash in on the popularity of Steve Buscemi’s HBO show Boardwalk Empire. It is similar to the XCOM series.
During the Prohibition era, you play the part of an Italian immigrant who rises through the ranks of the criminal underworld and takes over territories. Omerta looked old when it came out and even more so now, but despite its technical flaws, it is a good game in the mobster genre.
The Getaway
The Getaway is an action-adventure game for the PlayStation 2 that came out in 2002. It is set in London in the present day. It came out after Guy Ritchie’s British Cockney gangster movies were at their best.
At the time, The Getaway had cutting-edge graphics and motion capture, and it was set in London and showed well-known landmarks. Even though the story and dialogue don’t quite reach the level of its inspirations, The Getaway is still a thrilling crime game from beginning to end. Even though it was seen as a copy of Grand Theft Auto, The Getaway was much less satirical in its story than Rockstar’s games.
Scarface: The World Is Yours
Scarface: The World is Yours is an action game set in an open world and based on the famous Al Pacino movie Scarface. Tony Montana, the main character, doesn’t die. Instead, he lives and vows to get back at those who tried to kill him.
Even though Pacino’s image was used, Andre Sogliuzzo did the voice of Montana. Sogliuzzo sounds so much like the famous Scarface that Pacino himself chose him for the role. As Montana, you try to build a criminal empire in Miami by taking over territories and beating up other gangs.
The Godfather
The Godfather, which came out in 2006, was another videogame based on a gangster movie. Like Scarface: The World is Yours before it, it was a lot better than most people thought it would be. In the game, the main character was a new member of the Corleone crime family named Aldo Trapani. This meant that the story could go where it wanted to go without upsetting too many Godfather fans. The story also happens at the same time as the movie, so iconic events will still happen the same way they do in the movie.
If you liked the Mafia setting, The Godfather takes place in the 1930s and has a story and gameplay that are surprisingly good for a game about the Mafia. In The Godfather, you can try to extort money from businesses and take over the territories of other crime families.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is an open-world action game that first came out in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. It is set in a made-up version of Miami in the 1980s. The game is based on the movie Scarface and the TV show Miami Vice, which was very popular. Scarface and Carlito’s Way were also based on books.
Ray Liotta, who played the main character Tommy Vercetti in Goodfellas, which is often called one of the best gangster movies ever made, also lends his voice to the game. As Vercetti, you play a mob hitman who is working his way up the ranks to build a criminal empire.
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate came out in 2015 and is the ninth game in the series. It is set in London during the Victorian era. Even though it wasn’t fully appreciated at the time, Syndicate is now seen as one of the last true Assassin’s Creed games.
You can control both Jacob and Evie Frye as they try to take over the criminal underworld and fight back against the gangs of London that are controlled by the Templars. As Evie and Jacob, you will take back control of London’s seven boroughs by taking part in gang wars and killing people.
L.A Noire
L.A. Noire is a neo-noir detective game where you can go anywhere in Los Angeles. Its world can be explored, just like the maps in the Mafia games. Even though the game is a loving recreation of Los Angeles in the 1940s, it could have worked just as well without an open city to explore.
You play the part of Cole Phelps, a World War II veteran who became a detective after the war. He works to find out who a serial killer is and to show how the police are being dishonest.
Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs is an action-adventure game set in the streets of Hong Kong that came out in 2012. You play the part of Wei Shen, a police officer who goes undercover to join the Triads. Unfortunately for Shen, many of its members are his childhood friends.
The undercover officer feels pulled in different directions because his job, his friends, and his desire for revenge are all at odds with each other. Wei getting into trouble as he wrecks the streets of Hong Kong is a great story with a great voice cast and a good script to back it up.
The Yakuza Series – The Kiryu Saga
Before Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the main character of the Yakuza games was Kiryu Kazama, who has become an icon of the series. Fans of open-world crime dramas like Slope Game should not miss the Kiryu saga. The Yakuza games have some of the best development of main characters in gaming.
Kiryu is a former enforcer and member of the Dojima Clan. Most of the story takes place in the red light district of Tokyo. Kiryu tries to live a normal life, but he has to go back into the criminal world to protect the people he cares about.
