IRRIOT AB installs the first solar-powered irrigation system

IRRIOT AB, a Swedish irrigation system provider, installed the first solar-powered irrigation system – with free-range cultivation on just over a hectare – at IRRIOT AB’s experimental field in Lärbro in Värmland. This site is designed to study how solar irradiance affects plant growth and crop yield in different soil types. They used wireless solenoid valves powered by solar panels so they can control the irrigation system without needing wires.

The Benefits and Downsides of IRRIOT AB’s Solar Powered Irrigation System
In March of this year, IRRIOT AB installed the world’s first solar-powered irrigation system in a small farming community in the Philippines. The system is capable of supplying water to up to 30 households, and has already saved the farm over 1,000 liters of water per day.
